Small Groups
We have several small groups within our guild. Group members meet outside the guild and share
common interests in quilting.
Please contact Karen Giles or Sue Holt if you have interest in joining a Small Group, add any additional Small Groups or to correct any information.

Material Girls
"Material Girls" has been meeting since 1978. Although a few people have come and gone through the years, we now have 11 members. We meet once a month, in the evenings, at different locations. On birthdays we buy fat quarters or threads or small gifts for one another and, of course, celebrate with a yummy dessert! Also when it is a significant number birthday, we all make the block of choice for the birthday gal!
A few of the things we have done in the past together are: made ourselves a comfort quilt, a quilt for the auction, a quilt for the guild raffle and also this will be our third year for "Adopting a family at X'mas". It is fun to get together to visit, inspire, and work together in a group.
The Ditzy Friends
"The Ditzy Friends" is on group that has been meeting monthly for about 6 years. Frances Perata is the 'facilitator' and hostess for the meeting. They occasionally meet a other members homes. Projects that have been completed include: quilts for two ASQG auctions, 2 quilts for the Breast Cancer Quilt Auction (2002 & 2005) that benefits the Sutter Medical Center Foundation breast cancer research and patient treatments and 1-2 quilts per year for Community Service. There are sewing nights, show and tell, demonstrations by members (skills learned at workshops, etc.) and sometimes they just talk and share ideas and dessert.
Loose Bobbins
The Loose Bobbins quilters are looking for additional members. We meet on the 2nd and 4th Mondays of each month from 9:AM to 11:30Am. Please call Megan Johnson or Nancy Mahler for more informations.
Loose Thread
The Loose Thread are mostly beginner and intermediate quilters. We meet once a month for
2 to 3 hours. We share quilting techniques and do a lot of show and tell. We have been
meeting for about a year and have finished two baby quilts which we gave to the Community Service.
Durham Awesome Blossoms
Our small group has accomplished many community minded service projects in our seven years together. We've made several comfort quilts for friends with terminal illnesses. We made & raffled a quilt
for Muscular Dystrophy in honor of two young men in Durham who have the disease.
We also made raffle quilts for ARC & a quilt for the Guild's auction. We donated money towards the purchase of the Guild's quilt racks and also put together theme baskets for the Guild's last two silent auctions.
The Durham Post Office & Library have been recipients of wall hangings that we designed for them to hang in each location. We made over thirty patriotic wall hangings that we presented to local military families. These were displayed as a special exhibit at the 2004
Silver Dollar Fair. We have also hosted two teas at Windchime Assisted Living Facility, serving tea & treats to over forty residents and held two, one day quilt shows at Windchime for their residents & families.
We've done lots of sewing, but equally as much eating, as wer get together at different members homes to sample new luncheon recipes once a month. We've become much more than just a small group of quilters.
We have been there for each other through life's good and bad times and have become good freinds who are a great support group for one another.
Tangled Threads
Our small group formed about five years ago. Currently we have 11 members and represent three counties: Butte, Glenn, and Tehama. We usually meet in the evening on the third Wednesday of the month. Locations are rotated between member's homes but on occasion we have met for dinner at a restaurant or have car pooled on a special outing.
Meetings often include demonstrations, mini-workshops, a special guest, planning fabric shopping outings, something yummy to eat, and show 'n tell. In the past we have contributed Community Service quilts, made pillowcases for teenage foster children, and exchanged blocks to be made into baby quilts for the grandmother's in our group! We usually celebrate birthdays with fat quarters. Currently, plans are being made to do a challenge using the same focus fabric.
The Tangled Threads have retreats twice a year. In the spring, we attend one of Linda Ballard's three day retreats in Weaverville. Each fall we head for the mountains and enjoy working on our own projects, eating, and visiting. Being part of a small group has been a wonderful opportunity for each of us to make new friendships and grow as quilters.
If your group is interested in being showcased in the newsletter, , please contact Karen Giles & Sue Holt.
