ASQG Biennial ChallengeThe members of ASQG are an active and inventive lot! In the years that a quilt show is not held, a challenge is organized for members. The challenges take two forms – one year it is an individual challenge, with fabrics, design or theme designated by the Challenge Committee. Two years later, a group challenge is offered where several members work on more than one quilt in a Round Robin format.
Round Ribbon Challenge 2004In 2004, approximately 55 members signed up to participate in the Round Robin Challenge. Participants created a starting piece and joined a category – Traditional, Art Quilt or “Anything Goes!”. The starting pieces were put into bags and sent to four other members who each had two months to add their interpretation to the work-in-progress. Also in the bag was a diary for personal design notes and a bit of fabric. Some members put disposable cameras in their starting bags so they could see the quilt top as it was being created. The originator received the creation and had two months to finish it into a quilt. A grand showing of 50 quilts was held in November 2004 – the quality, innovation and beauty was astounding! The 2004 winners – by vote of the members – were:
